Safety is a matter of the system
Expert qualifications, experience and high standards
skip: Expert qualifications, experience and high standardsTo transport hazardous goods you must have experience and adequate qualifications – and Railion has both in spades.
As a track-based system, rail is the safest mode of transport – especially important for the conveyance of hazardous goods. In the year 2006 the volume of shipments of hazardous goods carried by Railion within Germany came to a total of 34.3 million tons – this in comparison with an overall total of 260 million tons. These included mineral oil products, chemicals, and toxic industrial waste.
Rail’s safety record also made a strong impression on the legislating authorities. Since 1970 they have made it mandatory for hazardous goods, from a certain quantity level, to be carried by rail or inland waterway vessel – so as to avoid the much greater risk of accidents happening during road transport.
Advantages based on experience
As we have been dealing with hazardous freight shipments for decades, we have acquired a considerable advantage based on experience. We carry out checks that are much more stringent than the random spot checks prescribed by statute. If we detect any irregularities, we deal with them at once – so as to be in a position to continue conveying the goods entrusted to us without any kind of delay.
Another important element is our emergency management system. This can be reached right round the clock and has close links with the infrastructure companies, authorities, DB branch offices and control centers. This makes it possible for us to introduce all the necessary measures immediately, so as to keep the resulting damage to the lowest possible level.
Audited and certified
Not only are we familiar with the requirements for the carriage of hazardous goods – all our operations are strictly based on processes certified to DIN ISO 9001:2000 standards, and are subject to SQAS auditing. We also advise our customers on load securing issues, and give them comprehensive information about the technical regulations that apply.
To ensure the safety of operations and enable them to go without any kind of hitch, we invest in our equipment on an ongoing basis. Another point – we make the training and further development of staff a top priority.
Protection against theft and damage
As we see it, safety also means that the goods carried by us must be protected against unauthorized access. Our security management system gives us a basis for customizing the security strategy for a given transport operation to the individual needs of the customer. We use the most up-to-date surveillance technology, backed up by a comprehensive preventive security policy, to protect your freight against vandalism, theft and material damage – both during transport and when the shipment is stationary.
In this way we can offer our customers an individually conceived security package, which may include such features as the GPS monitoring of shipments, use of mobile cameras or other ultra-modern, satellite-supported systems for the securing of freight car doors. In order to guarantee top security standards in connection with the increasing volume of international transport, our security management team is working hand in glove with our partner rail companies for the prevention and investigation of cases of damage.
